  5. Your mind is a garden – you can grow flowers or you can grow weeds!

I learnt at a young age – 20 in fact about the power of a human mind and about mindset and attitude after I was involved in a head on car accident that almost killed me.  There were no seat belts in those days!

I had to leave university and my life I had planned disintegrated as I had to recover from my injuries including the loss of my short and medium term memory.

What I learnt over this recovery time is the power of the human mind and a lot about resilience and attitude.

I decided that I wouldn’t be a victim of the accident and that it wouldn’t screw up my life.  This was challenging when everyone was feeling sorry for me and my future looked very dim.

What I learnt was that my mindset and attitude were the keys to my motivation to make this a different story and that’s when I also discovered the power of choice.

I also discovered the route of mediocrity is the easy path but never satisfying.

You see its simple – you and I own our life and when you discover how powerful you can be with your ability to make choices then you discover that the power within you is astonishing.

Your power to choose gives you the power to decide who you are each and every day and how you impact others everyday….

  • You have the power to build or destroy
  • Power to listen or ignore
  • Power to encourage or discourage
  • To understand or confuse
  • To Reach out or turn away
  • To Compliment or criticise
  • Create Hope or fear
  • To Act or stand still

And the best news is whatever your choices have been in the past (good or bad) doesn’t mean you need to make the same choices today or tomorrow.

Will you choose to make life work for you or choose to let life happen to you? Think about that – does life happen to you or do you make life work for you?

The key to all of this is making the decision to step up, to raise the bar for yourself and live with a growth mindset and be and live as your best possible self.

Because I see and work with so many people living their life with the brakes on, with conditions and rules, with limiting beliefs from the past waiting for approval from others or using excuses to keep themselves in their comfort zone never challenging the boundaries that they confine themselves voluntarily to.

Our attitude or mindset influences the way we respond, influences our impact on others and influences our happiness levels.

The more we recognise our power to make conscious positive choices the more difference we can make to our own and other peoples lives.  Doesn’t that sound like something you want to be part of?

So today, I am asking you to start challenging your current mindset and attitudes – be the 2% of the population who dive in and out of their comfort zone –  take the brakes off and live with a growth mindset where you build, encourage, understand, contribute, reach out, compliment, create hope, take action and inspire others with your new way of approaching daily life.

Because remember your mind is a garden, your thoughts are the seeds, you can grow flowers or you can grow weeds!
